Maria Regehr (1864-1901)

Maria Regehr was born on May 27, 1864 to David Regehr and Katharina nee Warkentin of Steinbach, Molotschna. The third of six children, she was raised in Steinbach. In circa 1887, Maria married a local young man, Nikolai Heinrich Schmidt (1861-1930), and they settled in Steinbach. Over a span of eleven years, they had nine children together. Maria died at 2:30 a.m. on December 5, 1901, from childbirth complications. The baby girl, their tenth child, died about the same time as Maria.

The next year, Nikolai married Maria’s younger sister Helene.
