Mrs. Kornelius Toews (c.1823-1909)

Mrs. Kornelius Toews (c.1823-1909) was my great-great-great-grandmother. Her first name and maiden name are not known. She married twice: first to Abraham Toews, then to Kornelius Toews (c.1820-1893).

First Marriage

In her marriage to Abraham Toews, she is known to have had two daughters: Elisabeth (1849-1907) and Cornelia (c.1854-c.1936).

· Elisabeth's life is discussed briefly in my book, Of Russian Roots and Canadian Migration.

· Cornelia's life is discussed briefly in the book Life and Times of a Russian-German Mennonite Teacher: Cornelius A. Klassen (1883-1919) and Beyond, by Robert L. Klassen.

Second Marriage

Mr. Kornelius Toews (c.1820-1893) and Mrs. Toews lived, at least for some of their marriage, in Tiege, Molotschna Colony, South Russia. They are known to have had three children: Anna (1863-1948), Cornelius, and Maria.

Kornelius' parents were Abraham Cornelius Toews (c.1781-?) and Anna Toews (c.1795-?). Kornelius is known to have had five siblings. One sister, Gertruda (1818-1893) migrated to the U.S.A. in 1875 with her husband Heinrich Goosen (1814-1893). Another sister, Susanna (1810-1871), had a grandson Herman Neufeld (1858-1900) who married into the David and Katharina Regehr family.
