Heinrich R. Reimer (1876-1959) |
|
My great-grandfather, Heinrich R. Reimer, was a teacher and well-known and influential preacher in Prairie Rose (now Landmark). He was born in the summer of 1876 in a sod house (semlin), the sixth of thirteen children to Abraham R. Reimer and Maria R. Reimer. Heinrich married at age twenty to Helena Dueck. They settled in Clearsprings, Manitoba, before moving to Prairie Rose in about 1920. He and Helena had thirteen children together. Heinrich started out as a farmer, but felt much more inclined as a teacher and preacher. At the age of 41, he was ordained as a Kleine Gemeinde (now Evangelical Mennonite Conference) minister. He officiated at weddings and funerals as well as preaching at Kleine Gemeinde churches in the area. He was the pastor of the Prairie Rose E.M.C church for many years. Heinrich died on October 4, 1959, after having devoted much of his life nurturing the spiritual and intellectual well-being of his community. Dr. Lawrence Klippenstein wrote a thirty-one page booklet on Heinrich R. Reimer entitled Love God And Your Neighbor Too. It is reproduced here with permission. (booklet, p.7, p.24).
