Find out about my Friesen ancestry. My great-great-grandfather was Gerhard S. Friesen (1852-1922). His first wife was Maria Wiebe (1852-1886) (bio, obit). His second wife was Henrietta Koehler (1863-1948) (bio). Gerhard’s brother was well-known printer and editor Jacob S. Friesen (1862-1931). Their parents were Heinrich D. Friesen (1827-1877) and Katharina Schellenberg (1824-1901). Heinrich D. Friesen’s father was Herman H. Friesen (c.1790-1828) (magazine article) His father was Herman Friesen (c.1750-c.1819) (magazine article) Children of Gerhard S. Friesen, including my great-grandmother, Maria W. Friesen.
Friesen Book The book Our Friesen Heritage: Reflections on the life of Gerhard S. Friesen (1852-1922) and his family, Third Edition is available in Canada for the cost of $40 including shipping. It consists of 105 pages printed in color, with well over 100 photos of the Friesens, a transcription of Gerhard’s family bible register, samples of his writings, a ten page biography of Gerhard, and various other items of interest to the family.
