Elisabeth Friesen (1864-1934) |
|
Elisabeth came with her parents Heinrich D. Friesen and Katharina nee Schellenberg to Canada when she was eleven years old. She married Isaac on June 11, 1882 in Steinbach, Manitoba. They lived near present day Kleefeld, Manitoba where they farmed. In 1899, they sold their land in 1899 but continued to live near Kleefeld where Isaac was a blacksmith. They moved to St. Vital, Manitoba in 1900 so their son Jacob who was had lost his hearing though illness could attend a school for the deaf in Winnipeg. Here they started a dairy farm and Isaac continued his blacksmith trade. They moved to Winkler in 1922 where he purchased a door and window factory. It was called Winkler Woodworks, located at the corner of South Railway and Sixth Street. Elisabeth and Isaac had five sons together: David, Jacob, Isaac, Fred, and Edward. Elisabeth died in 1934 at the age of 70.
