Anna Regehr (1857-1923) |
|
Anna Regehr was born on April 28, 1857 to David and Katharina Regehr. She was the eldest of six children. She was raised at the Steinbach estate, Molotschna where her parents were employed as shepherds. Anna married Jakob Fast around 1877. Jakob was employed as a supervisor on the Apanlee estate, whose owners had family ties with the Steinbach estate. In about 1901, Jakob and Anna moved near Kherson, where Jakob became the chief manager of the Yarlizkoje estate for brothers Peter and Nikolai Schmidt of Steinbach. The estate was a substantial operation, having landholdings of 14,000 dessiatines (37,800 acres) and employing more than 100 farmhands. For his efforts, Jakob was paid a handsome 100 gold rubles per month. Jakob and Anna had four children over a span of sixteen years: Katharina, Anna, Jakob and Helene. During the unrest of World War One, the Fasts retreated from the Yarlizkoje estate to the safety of an urban setting, the city of Kherson. Jakob and Anna had saved money from Jakob’s employment and about this time took ownership of a Wirtschaft (homestead) in Spat, Crimea. Their daughter Helene went to Spat in 1916 to help on the farm and in 1917, Jakob and Anna joined her. Jakob and Anna remained in Crimea for the rest of their days. At least three of Jakob and Anna’s four children, the Johann Unruhs, the Heinrich Edigers, and Jakob Fasts, settled in Crimea and were reported living there in 1930
