Obituary of Abram P. Giesbrecht (1884-1964) Our dear spouse and father, Abram Peter Giesbrecht, saw the light of this world on the 21st of September, 1884 in Lichtenau, South Russia as an oldest son of Peter and Anna (nee Mantler) Giesbrecht. Here he spent his childhood and youth until he found his life’s companion in me, Maria Bergen. We left Russia in 1924 and received a friendly reception in Ontario, Canada. Later we acquired a farm in Hochfeld, near Winkler, where we homesteaded the next years until we moved in 1935 to Fortier, Manitoba. In the spring of 1944, we retired and found our last home in Winkler. Shortly into the new year, 1961, father suffered a stroke and was thereafter almost always bedridden. About two months later, he peacefully passed away at the Tabor Home in Morden, on Sunday, the 31st of May at 4 o’clock in the afternoon. Although as a family we would have wished for many things being different in father’s life, we take comfort in the words that he said in the last days that the blood of Jesus Christ would cover everything and that he was ready to die. He reached an age of 79 years, 8 months and 10 days. He leaves behind me, his mourning wife, 5 sons, 5 daughters-in-law and 18 grandchildren in addition to a sister in Russia. Moreover, many relative and friends. He is predeceased by a son, a daughter-in-law and 5 grandchildren. On this occasion we as a family would like express sincere thanks for all the love bestowed on our parents, especially in the last three difficult years. We appreciated it greatly and say to all “God bless”. We also thank the sisters in the Tabor Home for their friendly and loving care. We would also like to sincerely thank the guests for their participation! The grieving family
