Mennonite Genealogy with Michael Penner

Steinbach, Molotschna 2007

The former estate at Steinbach, Molotschna. This was one of the largest Mennonite estates in Russia. The present state of disrepair only leaves hints of its former glory. It now functions as a facility for mentally handicapped children.

My great-great-great-grandfather David Regehr and his family lived on the edge of this estate. Much of the estate still stands.

What I believe is the former Johann Regehr house, north of the Tschokrak River. Only half the house stands, but it’s still big enough to inhabit!

Nicolai Schmidt house as it stood many years ago. The big structure on right was a later addition to the house. The original portion is on the right, somewhat obscured in this photo by the tree, but the roof is clearly visible.
